Lawn Care for June / July

Some top tips for lawn care from the Lawn Craft web site:

June
We are now well into summer and the lawn will need mowing frequently. Once again if growth is strong, light raking or brushing before mowing will help reduce any lateral growth, coarse grasses and broad leaf weeds.

Again June is a good month to carry out any weed control as long as the grass growth is vigorous and there is no sign of drought.

Apply another nitrogen based fertiliser if necessary to maintain consistent growth.

If drought becomes a problem irrigate your lawn. This is best carried out early morning or in the evening. Aim to water thoroughly and let the lawn dry out somewhat between applications. A light spiking of the lawn before irrigation will help with water penetration and reduce surface run off. For more information please visit our irrigation page.

July
This month the program will be similar to June as you mow on a regular basis, continue the light raking or brushing as long as the growth is strong.
Irrigate during drought conditions to prevent dry patch and to keep the lawn in a healthy condition.

Again a weed killer can be applied to control any weeds that appear or any hard to kill weeds that have survived a previous application.

If necessary apply a nitrogen based fertiliser to keep the lawn healthy.

Turffit Help out at Southwood Primary School, Glenrothes

Southwood Primary School in Glenrothes approached with regards to donating turf for their Community and School Garden. Knowing what as important project this was for the school, rather than just donate the turf, we sent along Stewart, our installation manager, and his team to give the garden the Turffit Touch and install the for them.

A key priority for the garden was that is was designed for children with physical impairments. The project was mainly funded by the Big National Lottery Fund but was further supported by local community and local businesses such as Turffit.

The garden had it's grand opening on 21st June 2011 and was opened by Chief Inspector David Moffat. Parents and the wider community were present.

Gardening Scotland 2011 - Turf Sofa

Just recovering from a hectic 3 days at Gardening Scotland. The sun shone on Friday, however Saturday and Sunday were much cooler (thankfully).

We spoke to lots of people regarding installations and we're also happy to advise on lawn care however the main topic of conversation was our Turf Sofa and foot stool. This was made as a one off for Gardening Scotland however we had so many enquires over the weekend we've decided we will be making them to order.

More posts on Gardening Scotland to come......
